Electric Meatball Creative: Personal Rebrand

How I transformed a quirky name into a strategic brand that attracts the right clients and positions me as a creative strategist, not just a designer.
  • 2024
  • Role
    Brand Strategist & Designer
  • Outcome
    Repositioned as strategic partner

01 / The Challenge

For years, I used freelance platforms and my portfolio to position myself as a skilled designer—technically capable, experienced, but interchangeable with other senior designers. I had a catchy name (Electric Meatball Creative) that made people laugh and remember me, but it masked my real differentiator: my strategic thinking.

I needed to transform my brand image from "talented designer taking freelance work" to "strategic brand consultant and design leader."

Without repositioning, I'd continue competing on price and execution, not on strategic value. I needed a brand identity that signaled expertise, strategy, and confidence—one that made the same name (which I wanted to keep for its distinctiveness) work for me instead of against me.

02 / The Strategic Approach

I started by asking: What if the name "Electric Meatball Creative" isn't the problem but instead the opportunity?

Rather than abandoning the name, I reframed it. The dissonance between "Electric Meatball" and "serious strategic design" became my differentiator. I'm not a stuffy corporate agency. I'm the brilliant strategist who thinks differently, gets results, and doesn't take herself too seriously. That's the gap in the market.

Three Strategic Insights Shaped the Direction:

1 / Differentiation Through Personality

In a market of anonymous designers and corporate design consultancies, my personality is a feature, not a bug. The name works if the positioning clarifies what I actually do.

2 / Strategy Signals Authority

By leading with strategic thinking and business outcomes—not just beautiful design—I command premium pricing and attract decision-makers, not just creative directors.

3 / Integration Over Fragmentation

My real differentiator is end-to-end execution (strategy + design + implementation). By showing this integrated approach, I position myself as a partner, not a vendor.

03 / The Solution

Building on that strategic foundation, I put codification into practice through my own rebrand. I translated the brand strategy into a cohesive visual and verbal system—defining the logo, color palette, typography, and tone to create clear, repeatable codes.
These elements work together to ensure every touchpoint communicates the same identity with consistency and intent. The result is a scalable brand system that not only reflects my creative philosophy but demonstrates how I build enduring, recognizable brands for clients.

I approach every brand project with the belief that scalable brands are codified brands.

Visual Identity System

Electric Meatball Creative

Logo Acts as Visual Metaphor Code

The pink brain + blue electricity logo isn’t decorative—it’s a visual translation of the brand concept.

Brain = creativity  /  strategy,
Electricity = energy  /  innovation.

This metaphor becomes the organizing principle for all visual decisions. When designing any brand application, I can ask: “Does this express the intersection of creative thinking and energetic execution?”

Typography Code

Principle: Playful yet professional—never childish, always credible. Typography must be clean with character, easy to read with distinctive personality, and versatile across digital and print.

Strategic Application: Type choices signal “professional strategist who thinks differently.” When selecting fonts for any application, they must pass the test: Does this feel serious enough to command strategic pricing while maintaining personality?

Why Codification Matters

With these codes in place, I can create new brand applications—website pages, case studies, pitch decks, social posts—without redesigning from scratch each time. The codes make decisions for me. More importantly, they ensure that the brand feels like Electric Meatball Creative no matter who's experiencing it or where they encounter it.

This is the same framework I bring to client projects: strategic codes that make brands scalable, consistent, and ownable.

04 / The Impact

This rebrand launched in September 2025. Over the next few months, I'll be tracking key metrics to measure positioning impact:

Measurable Outcomes

Inbound Inquiry Quality

Tracking ratio of strategy-first inquiries vs. execution-only requests.

Decision-Maker Engagement

Monitoring direct outreach from executives vs. creative team referrals.

Portfolio Session Duration

Measuring time spent on case studies to gauge strategic positioning resonance.

Qualitative Impacts

Repositioned as a strategic partner

The rebrand shifts client engagement from execution-focused to strategy-first. Early signals show conversations opening with business problems rather than design deliverables.

Commanding premium pricing

With clear strategic positioning, I anticipate moving away from hourly rate competition. The codified brand system should attract better-qualified leads who value integrated strategic thinking over commodity execution.

Attracting the right clients

The goal is to shift inbound inquiries from “we need a designer” to “we need someone who understands our market position and can build a scalable brand system.” I expect to see more direct outreach from executives and business leaders rather than solely creative team referrals.

05 / The Broader Application

This rebrand exemplifies a core principle I bring to every client project: Brutal Simplicity in strategic positioning. This framework, brutal simplicity, integrated strategic thinking, memorable differentiation, is how I approach every client brand challenge.
Too many brands overcomplicate their positioning to feel important. They hide behind corporate language and safe visual identities that could apply to anyone.

The strongest brands strip away the unnecessary and reveal the essential — what actually makes you different and why it matters.

For Electric Meatball Creative, that meant:

  • Lead with strategy, not execution, showing why the work matters to the business
  • Integrate all brand elements as a system, not independent parts
  • Make the complex accessible through simple, memorable symbols
  • Use personality strategically to signal different thinking
